April 26, 2010 - GOOD NEWS

Our clinic at L'Acul is operating again but in a tent since our building has not yet been inspected for safety.  Dr Cherley Policier, HSFH resident dentist, and a visiting dentist, Domenico Della Ventura, from Rome who is helping HSFH for a few weeks,  were able to treat 90 people since April 22.

THANK YOU once again for your continued support!

February 2010 Message from Georgina, Our Founder

Dear friends and supporters of Healthy Smiles For Haiti.
We have certainly seen the extensive generosity people all over the world are showing and giving to the people of Haiti after seeing the unimaginable sights of Port au Prince. There are so many needs in so many various ways, where does one begin to choose which direction to help?
The ongoing affect of millions of people will go on for years as Haiti must rebuild out of the crumbled cement of homes, government institutions, educational facilities, houses of worship and places of employment. I have heard many times the one testimony of the strong level of Faith the Haitian people possess. I have seen that fact from my first  visit to Haiti in 2001 just after the devastation of 9 / 11 in New York.
Many have inquired about our clinic, situated just west of Peit Goave, the centre of the earthquake on Wednesday which measured 7.0 .  Dr Cherley phoned me Saturday to sat he was alive and well although living outdoors. Our clinic in L'Acul is damaged but functional.  The door is locked and secured for the moment while all the clinic staff return to their families for the time being.  See January 27, 2010 slideshow of our clinic and surrounding area by clicking here.
I would speculate that the dental clinics in Petit Goave are probably damaged which means the needs of our dental clinic will be on a higher demand. Bringing down many many dental supplies in November 2009, I am confident the clinic will be viable for the next several months. Where we do have the needs are with regards to our finances. Opening a new clinic in July 2009 meant an increase demand on our finances to provide the basic needs for get the clinic functional. At the present time our Bank account has $200.00 in it. The salaries alone exceed $600.00 monthly. The sooner we get people employed the better they can support themselves and the increase demand to help family members who now lack employment and even food and shelter.
I know the people of Canada over the past several days have been most generous. I am asking you not to forget the needs of H. S. F. H. We resolve to continue on the path we began  9 years ago to provide preventive and curative dental services to the people of Haiti. We can only do that with your continued financial support. I am confident that our dental companies, labs and distributors will continue their generosity.
Our Bank Account at Canada Trust is noted above. We would be most grateful for any donation large or small at any time, but especially now.
It is a challenge to find any smiles as we reflect on the images we have all see over the past few days. One day, one day soon, H.S. F. H. will again do what we do best, providing smiles for the people of Haiti.

Sincere thanks,
Georgina Cosentino
Founder of H.S.F.H.
