Anna choose this scene because she says the lone tree represents the loss of all the many many trees cut down to provide fuel in the form of charcoal. Severe erosion is evident everywhere in Haiti from the plane and as you walk the mountain paths. I took the photo on my way to my friend, Lyonel sister's funeral in February 2004. She was twenty nine years young.
